Activated Metal Treatment System for Paints
Lab Studies

Laboratory studies were conducted by NASA's Kennedy Space Center and the University of Central Florida on an Activated Metal Treatment System (AMTS) containing bimetallic particles. The results of this work, which illustrate the effectiveness of AMTS at degrading PCBs, are presented in the following chromatograms. (Click on images to enlarge.)

AMTS was applied in the field at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in February 2006. In addition, field testing of AMTS was funded through the Department of Defense's Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP). Through this program, AMTS was tested at two sites, including the Badger Army Ammunitions Depot in Wisconsin and Space Launch Complex 19 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
